Great Expectations

You must expect great things of yourself before you can do them.

—Michael Jordan

If we are to truly understand these puzzles, to reveal the secret of The Secret, then the bar must be very high. We can not let ourselves be content with merely finding a casque via trial and error. The game becomes understanding how we are supposed to find the casque, every step, every clue. I believe that in all three cases where a casque was found there were errors or omissions in the solutions, which leaves them, in my opinion, incomplete. Any deeper meaning most likely lies in the whole correct solution. Anything less than a complete solution, and the secret of The Secret will remain unsolved.

This is a competition of which there can only be one winner. Yet, here we all are, putting our heads together, posting our ideas online, trying to figure this out collectively. I think that’s pretty cool. Personally, I think these puzzles are beautiful, amazing, and something to be shared. Consequently, I would like to see my efforts result in digging these things up! All I need is one person with the authority to do so in just the right park—a park ranger, a gardener, a maintenance worker, a supervisor, an administrator—someone who concurs with my interpretations and is willing to probe or dig a hole in the exact location described. I don’t need the casque or key. Just a modicum of credit is all I ask. And if any of the aforementioned fine folks decide they want me to tag along for such an adventure, well, I would be thrilled to do so! If I’m correct about the locations of the two undiscovered casques described in this book, then maybe I'll have enough credibility to get permission elsewhere. That’s my hope anyway.

The bottom line is that I wrote this book because I love these puzzles, all of them. They are unbelievably difficult, intricate, convoluted, creative, and beautiful. The stories they conceal are interesting and relevant, and the ways they are told are brilliant. They are exceptional treasures, one and all. I am not aware of any collection of mysteries deeper, richer, or more captivating than these. The challenges are unparalleled! Digging into these mysteries, stumbling from clue to clue, has been one of the greatest joys of my life, a grand adventure that I sincerely hope you enjoy even a fraction as much as I did.
