You Know That Road

I believe I know the secret of The Secret, and the details of which are a bit jarring. So, if you have preconceived notions about the secret of The Secret, I must ask you, at this point, to free your mind.

Early in the movie The Matrix, Trinity and friends arrange to pick up Neo so he can meet Morpheus, a famous hacker revered by Neo. This is the day after Neo had been arrested, an encounter Neo now thinks was just a dream. After he gets in the car, the character Switch aims a gun at him. Trinity explains to Neo that it’s for their own protection from him. He doesn’t know it yet, but a tracking device has been implanted inside him. The dialog continues:

Switch to Neo: Take off your shirt.

Neo: What?

Switch to Apoc: Stop the car.

Switch to Neo: Listen to me, Copper Top, we don’t have time for twenty questions. Right now there’s only one rule—Our way, or the highway.

Neo : Fine. [Neo starts to get out of the car.]

Trinity : Please, Neo. You have to trust me.

Neo : Why?

Trinity : Because you have been down there, Neo. You know that road. You know exactly where it ends. And I know that's not where you want to be.

Maybe you’re new to these puzzles, or maybe you’ve been working on them for forty years, accepting the status quo, taking the safe, boring path, over and over again. Please, you have to trust me. Because you know that road. You know exactly where it ends. And I know that's not where you want to be. What I’m going to tell you is unconventional, completely outside the box—but I also know it to be correct. So please, get back in the car, and let’s go meet Morpheus.
